About the Podcast
The How to Fail! Podcast is a labor of love and failure. I (Kristin) came up with the idea for this podcast after hitting a breaking point where I felt completely overwhelmed by information overload on how to “be a boss” and how to “make $100,000 while you sleep.” It didn’t feel inspiring – it felt defeating. How could I ever compete with the barrage of success stories we hear about on Instagram, Facebook, blog posts and business podcasts? I feel like a failure a lot – but I’ve had a difficult time finding resources on working through and overcoming these feelings. Not everything can be solved by “hustling harder.” That’s where this podcast comes in! Tina was so on board with the idea for this project that she jumped in with hardly any begging. With her social work experience and my creative business experience, we’re shining a light on the shadowy stigma of talking about failure. How to Fail! is for you if you struggle, make mistakes, doubt yourself, feel like you’re faking it, and wish more people opened up about these feelings too. We all fail – so let’s talk about it and fail forward together.

Kristin Vermilya is a brand photographer and podcast host/producer based in Pittsburgh, PA. She has gained a reputation for misreading baking instructions and getting lost in true crime shows. Here’s what she says about her relationship with failure: “I’ve always been extremely hard on myself my entire life and still can’t shake the feeling that I’m not meeting my own expectations. Failure gets to me most when my overachiever tendencies meet my creeping self-doubt. I hope through this podcast I can learn to accept my successes and ease the sting of my mistakes – let’s see how it goes!”
Justina McMasters is a social worker and podcast host based in Pittsburgh, PA. She loves succulents and is currently propagating her own right now. She loves wearing dresses and believes her alter ego is definitely in a jazz band. Here’s how Tina sums up her relationship with failure: “I’ve never been a competitive person and I think that’s how I’ve dealt with curbing my disappointments from failure. If I don’t expect to succeed then I can’t be sad when it doesn’t happen, right? But I’m learning that when I let my guard down, ask for help, and am not afraid to make bold decisions – I start seeing the amazing possibilities that await me.”
